It would have made the final stage that much more rewarding. What I was originally saying, was just agreeing with Urthdigger's point that they could have implemented skill requirements to enhance the experience of becoming Arch-Mage, and prove that you're skilled with magic enough to do so. I just found later on that roleplaying was more enjoyable - personally - for my own imagination. I don't think any way of playing the game is wrong - in fact, I originally just ran around achievement hunting. By admitting that you have to role play it (please tell me how, I'd be interested to know what your doing) you appear to me anyway to be acknowledging that something is wrong with the quest line. But we all seem to be straying from the OP's point which was that that CoW was disappointing. I do dislike the way people on this forum imply that their way of doing things is correct. However, a person chooses to play their came is the correct way. But many people don't, and they're the ones using warrior or thief characters to become the Arch-Mage for the sake of completion and achievements. Then you can go the rest of the time not even using magic at all, if you want, and for some reason they'll let this guy who just joined two days ago become the Arch-Mage over somebody like Tolfdir.

I mean, the CoW questline requires you to know something like 2 spells, and both are basic-level. I'm not usually a fan of padding for the sake of padding, but it was more believable that you'd check in every once in a while as you're training and do special tasks, culminating in something major that makes you the boss, rather than showing up one day just in time to see some serious go down, sorting it out, and being made the leader after about a day or two.Д®xactly. Sure, it seemed a tad arbitrary at times, but it served two purposes: First, you needed to actually be good at what the guild does, rather than simply at randomly beating things up and fetching things. To be honest, part of me misses the skill requirements of Morrowind's guild quests.
